Erika Tyagi is the associate director of data science products at the Urban Institute, where she develops scalable, impactful, and sustainable data science tools that advance innovative policy research. Her work includes building applications such as open data portals, interactive data tools, and privacy-enhancing technologies that safely expand access to confidential data.
Before joining Urban, Tyagi worked as a data scientist supporting COVID-19 response efforts, with a focus on the pandemic's impacts on vulnerable populations. She also previously worked in economic consulting and has applied research experience in machine learning, natural language processing, big data analysis, and causal inference across policy areas.
Tyagi holds a BA in economics and international relations from Carleton College and an MS in computational analysis and public policy from the University of Chicago.
