Nebraska is the first state to implement the new Medicaid work requirements established under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Michael Karpman, a health policy expert at the Urban Institute, and colleagues estimate the work requirements, along with more-frequent eligibility redeterminations, would lead to 5 to 10 million people losing coverage nationwide. Speaking with the Associated Press, Karpman said, “The higher the administrative burden, the more likely people are found noncompliant and disenrolled.”
